It’s said that an interviewer once asked Mother Teresa, “Are you holy?” perhaps baiting her to admit she wasn’t. Instead she responded,”Yes, and you should be too!”

But what exactly does it mean to be  holy?

One definition might be to wholly dedicate oneself to something.Wholly, i.e. holy.

Dr Yashar Hirshaut, of Cornell has dedicated his life wholly to the eradication of breast cancer.  Through his dedicated efforts and others like him, he says that  ”Breast cancer has changed from a 40 percent cure rate to a cure rate that is probably approaching 70 percent.”  A life singularly focused and committed. Wholly committed.

The Apostle Paul wrote,

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”

When we surrender our lives as a living sacrifice to Him, something supernatural happens. Our needs, our goals, our desires recede and are replaced by His will, his goals for us.

The Apostle Peter wrote:

“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he cares for you.”

A surrendered life is a peaceful life. And dare we say, a life that is holy?
