What Exactly Is In That Casket, Anyway?

A wealthy husband made his wife promise to place all his money in his casket when he died. The woman reluctantly agreed and, sure enough, the fateful day arrived. At his graveside ceremony, a friend of the grieving widow asked,”You didn’t really put all of his money in that casket, did you”?

“Oh yes”, she replied. “I promised.”

Awestruck, her friend asked, “Well, how did you get it all in there.”?

The widow smiled and said, “I wrote him a check.”

Jesus said: “A man’s life consists not in the abundance of the things which he possesses”.

We look at the outward, don’t we? The successful, the famous, the wealthy. But God looks deeper. Paul wrote: “He has chosen us in him before the foundation of the world that we should be holy and without blame before him in love”.

Is God impressed with our achievements (He created the universe in 6 days) or our standing in the community, or our wealth (He owns the cattle on a thousand hills)?

Jesus said:

“What shall it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and lose his own soul”?
