We Have Nothing to Fear But...We have nothing to fear except for… Can I lose my job? Will my spouse meet someone else and fall in love? Will my kids get into college? Is my checking account overdrawn? Will that pothole  on my street enlarge into a sinkhole? Will terrorists attack New York again? Will I get cancer, alzheimer’s?

Yeah, fear. Fear of failure, fear of letting people down, ourselves included. Fear of dying. Fear of living in depression, in addiction, in pain.

The Psalmist wrote about the righteous man,  “He shall not be afraid of evil tidings:his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD”.

How many times have you said,”God, if you’ll get me out of this, I will…” fill in the blank.

Evil tidings will come. That is a given. Some folks stress about that fact but do little to prepare for bad times., except worry about it.  Worry about the future is as effective as using a fly swatter to stop a locomotive. Worry is caused by fear and fear produces stress. But when you’re trusting in God on a consistent daily basis, you arm yourself against fear.

The Psalmist David’s son, Solomon, wrote, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

And those paths that God directs you into veer far from the path of fear.

He tells the number of the stars; he calls them all by their names(Ps.147:4). He knows how many hairs are on your head(Mt.10:30. His loving thoughts toward you are more than the sand(Ps 139:18).

If God be for us, who can be against us? (Romans.8:31)

If you belong to God, the battle is not yours. It’s his. Let him worry about the future, so you can live in faith today. One day at a time.
