The Blind Side Movie is based on the true story of  who adopted a homeless black teenager named Michael Oher. Michael’s father was not in his life and his mother was a drug addict. Michael had little education and few skills when Leigh Anne took charge. She and Sean Tuohy not only provided him with a loving home, but hired a tutor to help him improve his grades. As a result, Michael received a football scholarship to Ole’ Miss and his gridiron prowess got the attention of the NFL. He was the first-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in the 2009 NFL draft.

One line in the movie is when Leigh Anne shows the wide-eyed homeless youth his new bedroom in her beautiful home. He says,”It’s nice, I never had one before.

Leigh Anne replies, “What, a room to yourself”?

Michael replies, “No, a bed.”

To have a home, a family, even a bed of one’s own; something that most of us take for granted. To others like Michael Oher, an elusive dream.

You may have a loving family, a dysfunctional family or no family at all.  Regardless, there is a loving family that welcomes you with open arms. The family of God.

Adoption papers are waiting for you to sign.  The Apostle Paul wrote  “…if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Welcome to the Family.

1John 1:9 reads,  “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”. Welcome to the Family.

Later in that same letter, John writes “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”

A son of God, a daughter of God. A family of believers that are your brothers and sisters. That’s family. That’s God’s family.

Jesus said,  “For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother”.
