Ridley Scott’s Oscar-winning Black Hawk Down (2001)  burned into public consciousness the ferocity and desperation of the ground battle that took place after two American helicopters were shot down over Mogadishu, Somalia in October of 1993. For 11 days those soldiers were held captive.

Army Rangers including Keni Thomas were part of the rescue operation. Thomas later stated,”that as a Ranger, he had to recite a creed that includes the phrase,”I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy.”

In the Book of Hebrews we read,”(Jesus) has said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee”.

Ever felt left behind, forgotten, forsaken?

The Apostle Paul was persecuted, beaten, jailed, shipwrecked and at one point left for dead. And yet, he wrote the following: “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;  Persecuted, but not forsaken“.

The last words Jesus spoke in Matthew’s gospel were these; “Lo,  I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

Do you sometimes feel as though you have been taken captive by the enemy? Guess what–you are not forsaken. He is with you right now and he will never leave you. As King David wrote,”Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me.”
